Hello beloved people of First in Karlstad -

We are coming to the end of our school and program year, as we begin the month of May. Let’s look at what’s happening this month.
On Wednesday, May 1 we have our end of the year program for our Wednesday School at 4:30 PM. During the program, our Wednesday School kids will share what they’ve learned this year, sing a couple of songs, and recite their memory work. Following the program, we will have a BBQ. All are welcome to join and see what our kids have learned. This will also be the last Wednesday of Wednesday School for this school year. We will begin, again, in the fall.
On Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, we will have our first, all-together Synod Assembly since before COVID. Our Synod Assembly will be hosted at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. At this assembly, we will vote on the budget for our synod, discuss and vote on new policies for our churches / church leaders, and prepare for next year’s bishop election. If you are interested in being a delegate, please let Kathy Englund or Pr. Caitlin know.
Sunday, May 19 will be our Senior Sunday where we honor our graduating seniors. This year, we have invited all five of our graduating seniors to this blessing: Emily Barth, Lilly Duray, Mikaela Jarrett, Ella Kasprowicz, and Dawson Walz. They will show up in their caps and gowns, receive a quilt / blessing from our church family, and we will celebrate their achievement with cake after worship. The next Wednesday on May 22, they will have their Baccalaureate at Tri-County at 7:00 PM.
These are all of our events for the month of May. At the end of May, we will begin our Summer Sermon Series. This year, we will walk through Paul’s letter to the Romans. This letter is instrumental to our Lutheran faith because it is from Romans, chapter 3, Luther realized we are justified by our faith alone and not our works. We will begin this sermon series on Sunday, May 26. We will also begin using Setting 8, again, just like we did last summer.
Finally, I have some exciting news to share. This summer, my parents will be moving out to Minnesota part-time. They are renting the parsonage from First in Stephen, and will live here in the warmer months. We do not know yet when they will move out, but it will either be in late June or early July. Please keep them in your prayers as they make this transition.
That is it for the month of May. I’m excited to start a new sermon series with you, as we move into the summer months.
